1. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device when you visit. They let a site remember things between page loads and visits — like keeping a donation form working across its steps, or recognizing that you've already dismissed a popup. Some cookies are set directly by the Site; others are set by third-party services we use, such as our analytics or donation-processing providers.

2. How We Use Cookies

• To keep the donation form working correctly as you move through its steps.
• To remember basic display preferences, such as whether you're viewing the mobile or desktop version of the Site.
• To avoid showing you a popup you've already seen or dismissed.
• To understand, in aggregate, how visitors find and use the Site, so we can improve it.
• To keep you logged in and recognize your name and email if you leave a comment, so you don't have to re-enter them next time.

3. Types of Cookies We Use

Strictly necessary. Required for core features like the donation form to function. The Site cannot work properly without these.

• wp-give_session_* and wp-give_session_reset_nonce_* — keep track of your progress through the donation form.

Functional. Remember choices you've made to give you a smoother experience. The Site will still work without these, but may feel less tailored.

• adp-popup-* — remembers that you've seen or closed a particular popup, so it doesn't show again right away.
• wptouch_customizer_mode — remembers whether you're viewing the mobile or desktop layout.
• comment_author_*, comment_author_email_*, comment_author_url_* — set by WordPress when you leave a comment, so your name and email are remembered for next time.

Analytics. Help us understand how the Site is used, in aggregate, so we can improve it. We do not use these to build individual profiles for advertising.

• sbjs_* (Sourcebuster) — records, anonymously, how a visitor arrived at the Site (for example, a search engine or a direct visit), so we can understand which channels bring people to donate or read.
• tk_ai and related Jetpack cookies — anonymous usage analytics provided by Jetpack, the plugin that also powers site stats and related features.
• Google Analytics cookies (typically _ga, _ga_*, _gid) — set if Google Analytics is active, to measure pageviews and general usage patterns.

4. Third-Party Cookies

Some cookies are set by services we rely on to run the Site, rather than by us directly:

• Give (donation processing). Sets session cookies to keep the donation form working, and Sourcebuster cookies to track how donors found the Site.
• Paystack. Our payment processor may set its own cookies during checkout to prevent fraud and complete your transaction securely. We do not control these directly — see Paystack's own privacy documentation for details.
• Jetpack. Sets cookies to power site stats, related features, and general usage analytics.
• Google Analytics. If active, sets cookies to help us understand aggregate site traffic and usage.
• Mailchimp. If you subscribe to our newsletter, Mailchimp may set cookies related to that subscription.
• AddToAny. Powers the social sharing buttons on our articles and hymns, and may set cookies to support that functionality.

We don't control how these third parties use cookies once set, and we encourage you to review their own privacy and cookie policies for more detail.

5. Managing Your Cookie Preferences

Most browsers let you view, delete, and block cookies through their settings. Where to find these controls varies by browser, but is usually under Settings → Privacy or Settings → Cookies. You can also use your browser's private/incognito mode to browse without cookies being saved after your session ends.

If you block or delete cookies, some parts of the Site — particularly the donation form and comment forms — may not work as intended. Blocking analytics cookies specifically will not affect any core functionality; it only limits what we can learn about how the Site is used.

To opt out of Google Analytics specifically across the sites you visit, Google provides a browser opt-out add-on.

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, for example if we add or remove a service that sets cookies. Changes will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
