More than 2,000 people from the 22 countries of the West and Central Africa Division gathered at Babcock University in Ogun, Nigeria, on July 3, welcoming General Conference President Erton Köhler on his first visit to the country since becoming president.
Köhler met with Babcock University officials, West and Central Africa Division President Bassey Udoh, Central African Union Mission President Oyeleke Owolabi, and other union and conference leaders and delegates attending a Bible Conference and Leadership Summit held on campus. The visit was designed to encourage those delegates and to promote OneVoice27, the church’s global mission initiative.
Describing Babcock University as “a beacon and an influential Adventist university,” Köhler told the gathering, “We always count on you to train the next generation of leaders who will be engaged in mission work, not only in Africa, but throughout the world.” He praised the university’s culture of excellence and its commitment to serving as God’s voice in an academic setting, and encouraged the community to embrace OneVoice27 and unite in sharing the gospel worldwide.
Responding, Babcock University professor Olutunde Ojewole called the visit “historic and divine,” saying it “will go down in the annals of the university as one that celebrated our unwavering dedication to advancing the mission of the Gospel.” He noted that proclaiming the Adventist message remains a foundational pillar of the university’s vision, serving a community estimated at 20,000 people.
