A farmer in Roraima, Brazil, turned an ordinary harvest into an extraordinary gift — selling his entire crop of 790 watermelons and donating the proceeds to fund a local youth evangelism initiative known as the Caleb Mission.
The Caleb Mission is a youth-led outreach program active in Adventist churches across Brazil, sending young people into communities for short-term, hands-on evangelism and service. With the farmer’s support, the local initiative was able to reach further than it otherwise could have — work that ultimately contributed to 63 baptisms in the area.
It’s a small story by the standards of denomination-wide news, but one that captures something larger: that mission funding doesn’t only come from large donors or institutional budgets. Sometimes it comes from a farmer deciding that an entire season’s harvest is worth more given away than kept.
