More Than 3,000 Pastors Gather in Indonesia for “Building Up His People” Convention

More than 3,000 pastors and ministry leaders representing 11 countries gathered from July 28 to August 1 at the Basilea Convention Center in Serpong, Tangerang, Indonesia, for the Southern Asia-Pacific Division Ministerial Convention and Stewardship Summit.

Held under the theme “Building Up His People,” drawn from 1 Corinthians 4:1–2 — where Paul describes Christian leaders as “servants of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God” — the five-day gathering combined worship and biblical reflection with practical training across a wide range of pastoral responsibilities: leadership, stewardship, congregational participation, health ministry, child protection, pastoral-family care, financial accountability, and technology.

Leaders across the Southern Asia-Pacific Division said the convention was designed to strengthen pastors in their calling as spiritual leaders and better equip them to build healthy, mission-focused congregations across a territory known for its remarkable cultural and linguistic diversity — from island nations to dense urban centers.

Gatherings like this one underscore a theme running through this quarter’s own Sabbath School study of 1 and 2 Corinthians: that ministry, however varied its setting, is ultimately measured by faithful stewardship rather than personal achievement or status.
